This week we are featuring
Renee Forred of Bloom Births

How long have you been in business?

Since May 2016

What is your business all about?

Birth Doula (physical and emotional support during pregnancy, labor, and birth) and HypnoBirthing Education. I also have an Etsy Shop where I sell birth-y goods and gifts.

What makes your business unique?

My doula partner, Heidi Kolbeck-Urlacher of Belly Luna Birth Services, and I are the only partnership in the area. This provides an exceptional opportunity to our clients to access two doulas with nearly a decade of combined experience and multiple certifications. Our clients also know that the doula who will be at their birth is one with whom they have established a personal relationship.

What made you start your business?

I chose to start my business after three, transformative birth experiences of my own. I was saddened to hear women say they experienced births where they felt a lack of control and support, or that they feared the experience. Birth is an incredibly sacred time, and it deserves to be celebrated.

What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful business owner?

Organization, insight, and the wisdom to say "no"

What three pieces of advice would you give to someone who wants to launch their own business?

1. Always speak and work from the heart and with pure intention.

2. Don't be afraid to become an expert in things you may have never imagined you would need to figure out to run a successful business.

3. Stop doing so many things. You don't need to "hustle" in a million different directions (or at all). You need focused effort coasting in one direction.

Who has been your greatest inspiration? Or what book has inspired you the most? Or what is your favorite book?

My doula partner, Heidi Kolbeck-Urlacher, has been a mentor to me, and it's an incredible honor to pursue our goals together.

How do you conquer those moments of doubt that so often stifle or trip up or stop so many?

I ask myself what I would tell a friend who experiencing the same doubts, and I take my own advice. We tend to be so unkind in our own heads, but when we use the thoughts we would direct outward, we learn to give ourselves more grace.

Thank you, Renee, for letting us share a bit about you!
